JumpAloft Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 November 2026
JumpAloft is an iOS weather and planning app for skydivers. It has no accounts
and no advertising. This policy describes what the app does with location and
related data. It matches the disclosures in JumpAloft Settings and the app’s
privacy manifest.
Data JumpAloft uses
-
Precise location (optional). If you choose
Use My Location, JumpAloft reads your device location while the app
is in use to compute straight-line distance to drop zones. Search and
custom places do not require location permission.
-
Selected coordinates. When you load weather for a place
(saved place, search result, or device location), JumpAloft sends that
latitude and longitude to weather services so they can return forecasts and
observations for that point or nearby area.
-
On-device preferences and places. Units, model choices,
similar settings, named places, and cached weather snapshots stay on your
device (UserDefaults / local storage). They are not uploaded to a JumpAloft
server. JumpAloft does not operate a user account backend.
Who receives coordinates
-
Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com)
— model winds aloft, Outlook meteogram data, and optional terrain elevation
estimates.
-
NOAA / NWS Aviation Weather Center
(aviationweather.gov)
— airport observations (METAR), forecasts (TAF), and airport records.
-
Apple — MapKit map tiles and map services when maps are
shown; a custom place may also use Apple services for time zone.
Requests use HTTPS. JumpAloft does not sell your data and does not use your
location to track you across apps or websites. Location is not linked to an
account or other identity in JumpAloft, because JumpAloft has no accounts.
Purpose
Location and coordinates are used only for app functionality: weather for the
place you selected, map display, drop-zone distance, and related planning
features (including instructional Spot estimates from model winds and your
confirmed landing / jump-run inputs).
What JumpAloft does not do
- No user accounts, login, or Sign in with Apple.
- No advertising network, analytics SDK, or crash-reporting service is
built into the app as described in current Settings disclosures.
- No tracking as defined by Apple’s App Privacy / privacy manifest
(
NSPrivacyTracking is false).
Third-party terms
Open-Meteo and NOAA process requests under their own terms. Open-Meteo data
is credited under CC BY 4.0 in the app. Map data and services are provided
by Apple. JumpAloft is not affiliated with Open-Meteo, NOAA, USPA, Windy, or
markschulze.net.
Children
JumpAloft is a weather and skydiving planning tool. It does not knowingly
collect personal information from children for accounts or profiles; it has
no accounts.
Changes
If JumpAloft’s data practices change (for example a commercial Open-Meteo
plan, analytics, or accounts), this page will be updated and in-app
disclosures should be updated to match before relying on new practices.
